Tour

Everything Canopy does, in one place.

Start with the narrated film, then look anything up below. Every feature here is in the app today.

Read the narration

This is Canopy. Your Jira project, as one tree you can reshape from the keyboard.

See the whole project. Every epic, story, task and test sits where it belongs, joined the way the work breaks down. Press a number to show that many levels, and move around with the arrow keys.

Plan at typing speed. Press Z to focus on one epic. Tab adds a child, Enter adds a sibling. Just keep typing. In Jira, each card is a real work item, created with your own permissions. Option and the arrow keys reorder cards, or move them to a new parent.

Owners, status and progress. A assigns. S moves the work through its workflow. Every branch rolls up: done out of total, story points, overdue work, and the next due date. Late and blocked work is marked wherever it sits.

Save a branch, share the link. Focus on any branch and save it, for yourself or for the whole team. Copy its link and post it where your team works. Anyone who opens it lands right in that branch.

Find, filter, hide. Slash finds any work item, and jumps straight to it. Filter by person, status or sprint. Then press H to hide everything else, and the tree closes up around what's left. Command S saves it as a View.

Colour the plan. Colour palettes paint the cards by a rule: by status, by priority, or by what's overdue. Anyone on the project can edit the team's palettes.

Three ways to read it. L switches layout. The outline is the same plan as a table you can edit. The timeline shows dates as bars and milestones. Drag one to reschedule. And the map is the tree.

Check the plan. The plan gaps report lists what your plan is missing: owners, estimates, dates, and empty epics.

Every change you make in Canopy is a real Jira change. It runs on Atlassian, with no Canopy server. Find out more at bloomlogic.co.uk.

Plan and edit

Build the plan where you can see it. Every edit is a Jira change, made with your own permissions.

Add work as you think of it

Tab adds a child, Enter a sibling. Type the title and keep going.

Rename in place

R or F2 edits the title on the card.

Fields on the card

A assignee, S status, W sprint, D due date, P priority, T labels, Y flag, N description, C comment.

Status follows your workflow

Status changes go through the project's own workflow, and open Jira's screen when a transition asks for one.

Change many at once

Select with ⇧↑↓, ⇧-click or ⌘-click, then set assignee, priority, due date, labels or sprint for all of them.

Paste a list

Paste lines of text with ⌘V and each becomes a child card, up to 100 at a time.

Templates

Save a branch as a template and stamp it anywhere in the project, up to 100 cards.

Your own fields

Show up to ten extra custom fields. Seven kinds of field can be edited in place.

Archive old work

Hide finished branches without deleting them. Archived work isn't loaded at all, and can be restored.

Move and reshape

Nest work to any depth, and put any card under any other. The shape is yours.

Reorder

⌥↑ and ⌥↓ move a card among its siblings. Add ⌘ or ⇧ to send it to either end.

Change the parent

⌥← moves a card out a level, ⌥→ tucks it under the card above.

Drag and drop

Drop onto a card to re-parent. Drop between cards to reorder.

Cut and paste

⌘X, then ⌘V to paste as a child or ⌘⇧V as a sibling.

Undo

⌘Z and ⌘⇧Z, thirty steps. Undoing a new card deletes it if you may delete, and archives it if you may not.

Deleting asks first

A deleted card takes its whole Canopy branch with it, every card beneath it. That goes further than Jira, where a story under a deleted epic survives, so Canopy always confirms first and says what goes.

See progress and risk

The numbers a lead asks for, shown where the plan is. Rollups are shown, never written back into Jira.

Rollups on every branch

A progress ring, done out of total, story points total and done, an overdue count and the next due date.

Blocked work

A badge on every blocked card, a Blocked filter, and a warning when work is due to start before its blocker is due to finish.

Plan gaps report

Open work with no owner, estimate or due date; empty epics; work due after its parent; parents whose children are all done; work untouched for fourteen days.

Baselines

Name a moment, or pick any past date. Canopy compares start and due dates, estimates and whether work was finished against that date, from Jira's own history, even from before it was installed. Past parents and order are not rebuilt.

Recent changes

A feed of what other people have changed in the project.

Live with your team

Other people's edits appear within about five seconds; up to 30 seconds on a board nobody has touched for ten minutes. Their reorders and deletes arrive within about 20 seconds, up to 2 minutes on a tab left idle.

Find and focus

Big projects stay readable when you can narrow them to the part that matters today.

Search

/ finds any work item by title or key and jumps to it.

Filters

F opens filters for type, assignee, status, priority, sprint, due date, labels, estimate, components, fix version and blocked.

JQL

J takes JQL. Canopy handles common queries itself and asks Jira for the rest, so development-status queries work too.

Dim or hide

H switches between dimming what doesn't match and hiding it. ⇧N and ⇧B step through the matches.

Views

⌘S saves filters as a View, for you or the whole project. V switches between them.

Branches

Z focuses on one branch and ⇧Z steps back out. Save a focus as a Branch for you or the team, and copy its link: whoever opens it lands in that branch.

Group by a field

G regroups the work by assignee, status, type, priority, sprint, component, fix version, label, estimate, blocked or due date, with counts and points on each group.

Levels and zoom

1 to 9 show that many levels; ⇧L lists them. Zoom from 40% to 200% with + − 0.

Three ways to read it

L switches layout. All three show the same work, with the same filters.

Map

The staircase tree of cards. ⇧C steps through what each card shows, down to titles only.

Outline

A table of the same tree. Edit any column except Jira's own timestamps; K chooses the columns.

Timeline

Bars and milestones by day, week, month or quarter. Drag a bar or its ends to reschedule; ⌥←→ shifts dates.

Share and present

Take the plan into a meeting, a document or a spreadsheet. Every file is made in your browser.

Present

⇧P goes full screen and read-only. Step through branches with N and B, or a presentation clicker.

Pictures

Export the Map or Timeline as SVG or PNG, or press E to copy it as a picture.

Spreadsheets

Export the Outline as CSV or Excel.

Colour palettes

Colour cards by up to five rules. Seven starter palettes come ready, and anyone on the project can edit them.

Links

U copies a card's link. O opens it in Jira.

Light or dark

Follows Jira's appearance by default. X switches between light and dark.

The keyboard map

Press ? in the app for the same list. Letter shortcuts can be switched off from the M menu if they get in the way of a screen reader or voice control.

Where it works

What Canopy supports today, so nobody finds out after buying.

Jira Cloud

Built for Jira Software. It also runs in Jira Work Management and Jira Service Management projects. Not available for Data Center or Server.

Both project styles

Company-managed and team-managed projects. Sprint controls appear when the project has a Scrum board.

Desktop browsers

Made for laptop and desktop screens. It isn't built for touch, and Jira's mobile app doesn't show app pages.

Project size

Up to 20,000 work items open whole. Above that, Canopy asks first: load everything, with a time estimate, or open one complete branch.

Language

English only. No translations are planned.

Accessibility

Keyboard shortcuts cover the main planning tasks, and letter shortcuts can be switched off. We don't yet claim conformance with an accessibility standard.
